Good sensory stocking fillers are small, sturdy toys that do one satisfying thing well: squish, light up, jingle, ooze or pop. Here are 40 ideas for autistic children, each with an option under £10 including VAT at the time of writing, and many of them popular with our customers last Christmas. They are grouped by type, from fidgets to bath toys, with advice on safety for younger children and on keeping the stocking itself from becoming too much.
Where a toy comes in bigger sets, the sets may cost more. Every price on our site shows the ex VAT and inc VAT amounts. For more choice, browse our sensory toys under £10 or the wider sensory stocking fillers range, and see our guide to gifts for autistic children for bigger presents.
What makes a good sensory stocking filler
Stockings get opened early and fast. The fillers that go down well are ones a child understands straight away and can enjoy without help.
- One clear reward. Stretch it, shake it or switch it on, and something happens.
- Linked to what they love. A child who loves spinning things will probably enjoy a spinner. A favourite fidget in a new colour is rarely a disappointment.
- Small but sturdy. Stocking toys get squeezed, dropped and thrown, so check the size on the product page.
- Ready to go. Fit batteries and test light-up toys before they go in.
- A mix of senses. Something to squeeze, something to watch and something to listen to lets your child choose what to play with first.
Age is only a rough guide for autistic children, and many enjoy toys made for younger ages. The age marks that do matter are the safety ones, covered further down.
Fidgets and squishes
Fidgets are the classic stocking filler, and they fit in a pocket or school bag afterwards. Most children soon have a favourite type: squishy, stretchy or clicky.

- Squishy Tentacle Ball: long, stretchy tentacles around an air-filled centre make it soft to squeeze and easy to catch. 130mm across, in six colours, and one of our best sellers last Christmas.
- Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty, mini tin: a pocket-sized tin of putty to pull, twist and squash. The tin comes from a selection including Owl, Shark and Starfish, picked at random unless you request one. Age 3+.
- Fidget Cube: a switch, a dial, buttons, gears, a joystick and a dip modelled on worry stones for rubbing, one on each face. Three buttons click and two are silent. Popular last Christmas.
- Giant Water Wriggler: 38cm of swirling, shimmering liquid in a squidgy tube that wriggles out of a tight grip. It is for supervised play and not suitable for children who may bite or pierce it. Popular last Christmas.
- Squeezamal: a super-soft, gently scented plush pet that slowly rises back into shape after a squeeze. The character is a surprise unless you ask for one in the gift note at checkout.
- Mega UV Slinky: the stair-walking spring in a big 105mm size, with multi-coloured coils that glow under a UV light. Age 4+. Popular last Christmas.
- Inside Out Fidget Octopus: a soft plush octopus that turns inside out to show a different face and colour. Sold singly or as a pair. Age 2 years+.
Light-up and glow
Light-up toys suit children who love to watch. Most of these come with their batteries; the picks below say which.

- Multi Spinner Wand: one press of the on button and the end spins in changing patterns of LED light. 200mm long, with 3 x AAA batteries included. One of our best sellers last Christmas.
- Flexi Design Spinning Light: rearrange the clear, flexible tubing in the holes, switch on, and a new pattern of light appears. 150mm high, with 3 x AAA batteries included. Another of last Christmas’s best sellers.
- LED Windmill Fan: a hand-held fan, 190mm across, that makes bright patterns of light, at its most striking in a darkened room. 3 x AAA batteries included. Popular last Christmas.
- Star Show Projector: scatters hundreds of stars around a dark room, lit by a white LED or a colour-changing one. 105mm across and 120mm high, with 3 x AA batteries supplied. Popular last Christmas.
- Colour Changing Crystal Light: a 100mm textured crystal that glides through slow colour fades. Its 3 x AG13/LR44 button batteries are in the box. Not suitable for under 3s. Popular last Christmas.
- Tsum Tsum Light Up: a small, soft Disney Tsum Tsum whose cheeks light up when it is patted or gently squeezed, with a chuckle or a squeak. Characters vary. Age 0+.
- Glow In The Dark Ducks: two rubbery, textured ducks that absorb white light, then glow brightly in the dark. Suitable from 6 months.
Sound and music
Sound toys are for children who like to make a noise and be in charge of it. If someone at home finds noise hard, agree a room for the loud ones.

- Flashing Tambourine: shake it for a musical sound and a burst of light at the same time. Colours may vary. One of our best sellers last Christmas.
- Jingle Stick: thirteen bells on a 185mm hand-held stick, with a sleigh-bell sound that suits Christmas morning. Age 5+.
- Hand Clappers: shake one and it answers with cheery clapping. 180mm long, in sets of 2, 5 or 10. Age 3+. Popular last Christmas.
- Football Rattle: a bright wooden rattle that makes an attention-grabbing noise when swung round by its handle. Colours and characters vary. Age 3+. Popular last Christmas.
- Scrunchy Octopus: the soft plush legs crinkle under your fingers and the head squeaks when squeezed, so every part makes a sound. Colours vary. Popular last Christmas.
- Squeekaboos: shake for jingle bells, squeeze for a squeak, rub for a crinkle. Choose a giraffe, elephant, bee or rabbit, each 190mm long. Marked 0 months+, so babies can join in.
Blow, hum and whistle
Toys to blow, hum and whistle suit children who love to make a noise with their mouth. They are not chews, so keep to their age marks: Duck Whistles and UV Touchable Bubbles are 3+ and the Wood Ball Blower is 5+. The Kazoo and the Wooden Slide Whistle have no age mark, so keep them for over-3s. Our chews cost more than £10; see our chew toys and chewy necklaces, and stay with your child whenever they use one.

- Wooden Slide Whistle: blow into it and move the slider up or down to change the note. 160mm long.
- Duck Whistles: three noisy duck whistles, each on its own lanyard, 55mm x 80mm. Age 3+.
- Kazoo: hum any tune into it and it sounds good, whoever is playing. A set of three 110mm kazoos, so there is one to share. Colours may vary.
- Wood Ball Blower: blow gently through the wooden tube and the little polystyrene ball rises up. It comes with two balls. Age 5+.
- UV Touchable Bubbles: long-lasting bubbles that can be touched, caught and even stacked, and that glow under UV light. Ages 3+. Popular last Christmas.
Bath and water
A bath on Christmas evening keeps a bit of the usual routine, and something new in the water makes it special. Gelli Baff, Crackle Baff and the Bath Crayons are made for water, and the two Baff powders also work in a tuff tray. Magic Snow is for messy play on a tray, not the bath. See our messy and water play range for more.

- Colour Change Gelli Baff: sprinkle it into water for thick goo that changes from blue to purple, then add the dissolver powder to turn it back into coloured water and drain it away. Age 3+.
- Crackle Baff: three 8g sachets of powder that make water crackle, pop and bubble, then dissolve completely. Age 3+.
- Magic Snow: add a little water to the powder in these three tubes and it swells to 100 times its size as fluffy white flakes. Spray it with water to keep it for months, or let it dry and use it again.
- Bath Crayons: six washable crayons for drawing in the bath. Each crayon slides back into its case when it is not in use.
- Animal Magic Mirror: a soft foam animal, 200mm x 200mm, with a bendy acrylic mirror that stretches your reflection. Fun at bath time or any time, in eight characters, each under £10 on its own. Popular last Christmas.
Timers and things to watch
Liquid timers and motion toys are slow and quiet: turn them over and watch. Some children keep one by the bed. For bigger timers, see our visual timers and organisers.

- Oozy Gunge Timer: turn the 100mm tube over and coloured gunge oozes down from the top chamber. Put it in the fridge for a few minutes, or in the sun, and compare how the speed changes. Six colours.
- Liquid Visual Timer: coloured oil and water droplets fall to show time passing. It is 120mm high, in blue, green or pink; the single timer is under £10 and the set of three costs more.
- Penguin Timer: a clear liquid timer in which a happy penguin bobs up and down. It is 130mm high and marked ages 8+, so keep it for older children.
- Mini Sand Timers: four brightly coloured sand timers, each colour for a different length of time. At 90mm x 25mm they are handy for taking turns with a new toy.
- Floating Fish Aquarium: turn it upside down and the colourful fish dance about in the water. It is 45mm x 45mm and 150mm high.
Small cause and effect toys
Pull, press, spin or clap, and something happens. These are easy to share with a brother, sister or grown-up.

- Telescopic Popping Robot: pull its arms and legs into new positions and hear them pop, then join them up with the sucker pads. It is 150mm long before stretching. Age 3+. Popular last Christmas.
- Pop-up Dinosaur Truck: a truck of dinosaur pop tubes to stretch, bend and twist, popping as they go. Comes in two designs. Age 3+. Popular last Christmas.
- Octo Spinning Popper: spin it and the octopus changes its face; press the poppers on its legs for a pop. It comes in three colours, and you can request one in the gift message at checkout. Popular last Christmas.
- Yellies Gecko: clap, whisper or giggle near it and this sound-reactive gecko scurries off. Taking turns to set it going makes a good game for two. Popular last Christmas.
- Rolio: a cylinder on soft silicone tyres, with textured pegs that slide in and out as it rolls and rattle when it is shaken. It is 110mm x 70mm. Ages 6 months+.
Safety for younger children
Stocking fillers are small by nature, so check them before Christmas Eve, especially if a baby or toddler will be around.
- Follow the age marks. On small toys these are often about small parts. Here, the Mega UV Slinky is marked 4+, the Wood Ball Blower and Jingle Stick 5+ and the Penguin Timer 8+. Follow them for any child who still mouths toys, whatever their age.
- Use the under-3 options. For babies and toddlers, choose Squeekaboos or Tsum Tsum Light Up (marked 0+), the Glow In The Dark Ducks or Rolio (6 months+), or the Inside Out Fidget Octopus (2 years+). Never put a 3+ toy in an under-3’s stocking.
- Supervise liquid toys. The Giant Water Wriggler is for supervised play and is not for children who may bite or pierce it.
- Handle batteries yourself. Fit them before the day, check covers are closed, and keep spares out of reach, especially button batteries like the LR44s in the Colour Changing Crystal Light.
- Hold back bath powders. Give Gelli Baff and Crackle Baff when an adult is around, rather than in a stocking opened alone at 6am.
How to avoid an overwhelming stocking
A bulging stocking is the highlight of the day for some children and far too much for others. A few ideas:
- Fewer things. Three to five small toys can be plenty.
- Wrap lightly, or not at all. A drawstring bag or loose tissue is quicker than tape, and some children would rather see straight away what they have got.
- Keep it familiar. The same stocking in the same place every year can make the morning feel more predictable.
- Save some for later. Keep a couple of things back for the afternoon or Boxing Day.
- Hold back loud toys. Put them at the bottom, or save them for later in the day.
- Show the stocking first. Hang it up empty and explain that on Christmas morning it will have a few small presents in it.

Questions parents ask
What are good stocking fillers for an autistic child?
Small, sturdy toys that match what your child already enjoys. A child who loves to watch may like a light-up spinner or a liquid timer; a child who likes to fiddle may prefer putty, a squishy ball or a fidget cube. Always check the age mark.
Do all these sensory stocking fillers cost under £10?
Yes, at the time of writing: on 28 October 2026 every toy here had an option under £10 including VAT. Prices can change, so check the option you choose before adding it to your basket.
Can schools order stocking fillers for a whole class?
Yes. Any school, nursery or other organisation can pay by purchase order: just enter the PO number in the box in the basket. Orders over £45 ex VAT get free standard UK delivery.
How soon will my order arrive?
Standard delivery by Royal Mail takes about 2 working days. Next working day delivery costs £7.50 + VAT, and orders for it placed before 2pm, Monday to Friday, are sent the same day. The post gets busier in December, so allow extra time.
